I believe this is the most unique book I’ve ever read. Botany is a fascinating subject and I’m surprised that it’s not utilized more often in fantastic fiction.The author does a wonderful job of tying up all aspects of the plot while still leaving room for a sequel. I’m a little anxious to find out what Kat has up her sleeve.
The characters are colorful and the plot is intense. The author has created one wild ride!

The Philosophers Load is quite the creative page turner, full of excitement and suspense! I was not sure that I would like it from the book description but was I surprised! It was a great read! Very captivating, I couldn't put it down! Nice work, and very creative, hope there is a sequel!

Full of ambiguous heroes, drug-soaked violence, and over-the-top characters, The Philosopher’s Load is an adrenaline trip of non-stop action.
Very inventive story with all kinds of weird s*** going on. Quite well written; very engrossing. A lot of benign characters get killed off, which darkens the mood considerably, and the real evil sociopath survives long enough to inflict a lot of pain. It didn't bother that much, but if you're looking for a book with a happy, satisfying ending, better to skip this on.
I'm not much of a reader...maybe 2 or 3 books a year. But I couldn't put this one down! The author has a really unique sense of humor and way of writing that draws you to the next page, every time. Perfect combination of drama, intensity, humor, and cliff-hangery-ness. Highly recommended!
From the get-go, readers are taken on a humorous yet dark journey as the main characters take you on a journey of drugs, violence, and thrills. I was really impressed with how detailed the author was in some of the passages. The first one that grabbed my attention was the simple act of Kat opening a notebook as she started feeling the effects of the mushrooms. As the story proceeds, we have many different points of view woven into a phenomenal and darkly funny novel. Excellent read that I will come back to read in the future for sure.
This richly imaginative supernatural crime thriller, jam-packed with quirky characters and blackly ironic humor, is a terrific read. Imagine if Quentin Tarantino directed Seth Rogen and James Franco's characters from "Pineapple Express" in one of Elmore Leonard novels about bumbling smalltime crooks. Throw in a mutated lily with extraordinary paranormal powers and you have an idea of what "The Philosopher's Load" is like.
The cast of characters scrambling to get hold of the lily are all colorful -- starting with Ras, the one-legged, persnickery black "alchemixologist" who creates it. My favorite is Kat, a Columbian drug dealer who is sadistic and sexy, spiritual and barbaric -- one of the best literary villains you'll ever come across.
